Protecting our retail clients from rioting in Paris
What Happened?
In June 2020, the shooting of a 17-year-old boy led to riots and protests throughout Paris, France, that quickly turned violent. While it started as a riot against the police, the rioters soon turned to property destruction, including high-street stores.
As arrests soared, so did the number of properties that were destroyed across the city, with windows broken, interiors destroyed, and stock within stores destroyed too.
Our Clients
Titan Security Europe works with numerous retail clients across Paris.
For the most part, the security services we provide to these stores are on an ad hoc basis or set day shifts for guards to watch the store during trading hours. We also offer out-of-hours security with a mix of static guards, mobile patrols, and CCTV remote monitoring.
However, with these riots ongoing and with no sign of them slowing down any time soon, our clients grew fearful of their own stores being destroyed or broken into, and so they reached out to us, their trusted security company, to ask if we could do anything to help.
What We Did
Our 24/7 international control rooms are in constant contact with our guards and are constantly reachable by clients and our company alike.
Due to this, we were able to organise emergency guarding for our clients.
We had more guards than usual on call in and around Paris over the period of the riots for this exact reason. When our clients asked for emergency help, we were therefore able to send guards to the stores in question. Due to proximity, our guards were on-site within an hour of our clients contacting us.
Our guards stayed at the stores, ensuring that no rioters attempted to break into or otherwise cause destruction to the stores while the riots were ongoing.
The Outcome
Although the riots worsened from this point on, our clients did not suffer from property destruction or thefts as other retailers in Paris did. Our guards kept the stores safe from these threats and mitigated violence in the direct vicinity of the properties.
We already have an ongoing relationship with these clients, but it has only strengthened since our placement of emergency guards.
In the weeks following the riots, our clients asked for 24/7 guarding—throughout trading hours and the evenings—just in case issues should again arise and the riots restart.
Security is always important, though there are instances, such as the riots in Paris, where it becomes even more of a necessity. Having a trusted security company that can aid you at the last minute in an emergency is crucial.
